A premium and contemporary 3 seater sofa with dual height to diversify seating positions and create a visually stimulating form.
With ‘nook’ like ends to get comfy and relax but most importantly to enjoy. A generally low stature to feel grounded and stable whilst also providing perch like seating for standers on the back and sides.

SKETCH MODELS
Mostly 1:10 scale made from paper, 2mm card and blue modelling foam, these have helped me to visualise my design throughout the development stages. Starting with really quick paper models though to CNC milled blue foam ones.
A 12mm MDF frame covered with 2mm fluted cardboard for the main body with turned pine legs, this model has really allowed me to visualise the proportion and scale of the sofa and solidified the design.
Backing supported with Hessian webbing to enable curves to be retained, followed by 100gsm polypropylene fleece, Reflex foam and Dacron to reduce friction between the material improving lifespan.
CNC machined 18mm birch plywood frame, ensuring precision dimensions.

Dowelled and glued joints and stress points reinforced with blocks to increase support and strength.
Seating base manufactured using elasticated webbing stretched to provide tension under 100gsm polypropylene fleece, then covered with reflex foam and Dacron.
Finished with a twin needled seam.
Turned from solid walnut fitted and located with prepositioned metal plates.
