woodland lounger

A modular, convertible green space seating installation, to encourage the general public to venture out to explore and absorb the natural physical and mental health benefits of green areas.

PROBELM

Unappreciated and inefficiently used wood thinnings alongside disconnected civilians from the surrounding environment, predominantly green areas. The lack of motivation to visit communal dense green areas such as woodlands.

PROCESS

By looking at a range of materials that complement specific wood thinnings with positive effects on the environment. Discover the uses of seating areas and the effect on the community whilst also considering the effects of green areas on mental health and how green prescriptions engage these issues.

PROPOSAL

To create a product that embraces the natural beauty of wood thinnings and provides a useful yet playful seating area. To provide a draw away from urban areas for users to embrace their local natural environments.

Modelling was a key factor to the refinement of the project and provided a baseline for the mechanism, the sliding element. though quick models and iterations of roll types it became apparent how the things would become attached and how they would need to slide through the outer channel frame.
